Experiences in Chiba

The Boso peninsula east of Tokyo opens onto a long Pacific coastline of surf towns, fishing ports, and craft studios. Ichihara and Kamogawa host ring-making and glassblowing workshops that make for a quieter, ocean-side counterpoint to the city — about 90 minutes from central Tokyo by Aqua-Line bus or JR Sotobo / Uchibo Line.

Chiba’s Boso peninsula is the closest stretch of open Pacific coast to central Tokyo, and it offers a slower pace than the metropolis — surf points, working fishing ports, hot spring inns, and small craft studios scattered along the JR Sotobo and Uchibo lines. Ichihara is a popular weekend ring-making destination, and Kamogawa pairs glassblowing with the famous Kamogawa Sea World. The Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line highway bus is the fastest route from central Tokyo (~70 min to Kisarazu), and JR’s Sazanami / Wakashio limited expresses cover the southern coast.
